Forest Bathing in the New Forest


​We did it!

Bournemouth Meditation led its first New Forest Breathing session took place on the weekend.

The weather was touch and go with torrential rain in the morning but the forest faeries clearly worked their magic as we a had perfect conditions to enjoy the afternoon. What is Forest Bathing?

Forest bathing is based on a Japanese practice known as shinrin yuko - which basically means “forest bathing” or spending time in the presence trees.

The practice is proven to lower heart rate and blood pressure, reduce stress hormone production, boost the immune system, and improve overall feelings of wellbeing.

Health benefits can be seen for up to a week visiting our woodland friends and is felt due to various essential oils (generally called phytoncides) found in wood, plants, and some fruit and vegetables. They emit these essential oils to protect themselves from germs and insects.

Opportunities to forest bathe again will be coming up in a few weeks.
